I have over 30 years of experience providing collaborative and creative psychotherapy and want to share my expertise with you.
I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, school, and residential settings with a wide variety of clients.
Here you can find more information about my education and training as well as a bit about me personally.
My style of therapy is open, comfortable, and collaborative and experienced as spending time with someone who knows you well and cares deeply. I work to share what I have learned and to be creative in finding the best treatment for you. I am not afraid to give feedback, not to tell clients what to do but to share my expertise and help people navigate their lives. I have worked with clients at all stages of their lives to find meaning and joy.
My current specialities are contemplative practice and working with the LGBTQIA and elder communities.
I enjoy working with elders as they look back and consider their lives, both the successes and the difficulties. End of life questions, grieving loved ones, coping with a changing body, and chronic health conditions can be approached with courage and respect in therapy.
I have worked with clients across their lifespan regarding their LGBTQIA identify and its impact on their life and relationships. I am often someone who supports children, adolescents, young adults, and their families during the coming out process as well as helping LGBTQIA elders find social support.
I often use creative writing and other expressive arts to support clients' efforts to grow and make meaning of their internal experiences and social environments.
Contemplative practice can be a valuable addition to psychotherapy and includes ways to connect and make meaning of one's life, including spiritual and emotional development.
My rates vary from $140-$170. I also offer a sliding scale based on need. Please contact me for more information on my rates.
I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Citna, Medicare, Medicaid, Tufts, United Behavioral Health/Optum, Cigna, Health New England insurances.
I use a collaborative approach to supervision. We will work together to identify goals for your practice that are meaningful to you. We will think your work through together to make meaning of your internal experiences, indicators of risk, and other factors so that you can work to identify effective relational and intervention strategies. If you have questions about ethical decisions or professional goals, supervision can be a nonjudgmental place to gain perspective.
Given my varied experience, I often work with clinicians to identify and develop specialties in their practice.
I have been the coordinator of an Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program at a local agency since 2017 and have provided peer consultation as part of various DBT consultation teams since 1994.
I also have experience supervising clinicians providing outpatient therapy. I have consulted to agencies, parents, and programs on treating adults, children, and families with complex concerns and providing support to staff and network of providers, including behavioral management systems. I have also supervised clinicians in a substance use disorder outpatient facility with a focus on recovery engagement.
"When I opened my own practice, Bonnie was the only person I considered to consult with. Her ability to hold the most difficult parts of being a therapist in perspective is among the strongest I have seen in my career. Bonnie knows how to demonstrate that she cares, which is vital to me in perceiving feedback as coming from a place of mutual commitment to my own growth."
I have experience participating in and leading Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) consultation teams. I have also worked with clients with substance use disorders, teaching social skills to children and adolescents and consulting with their schools, clients with intellectual disabilities in residential settings, and with children and families experiencing grief.
I have held a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker license (LICSW--#1030842) since 1999.
I earned my bachelor's degree in philosophy at Smith College in 1986 and my master of social work degree at Smith College in 1996.
I completed a DBT intensive training in 1996 and have been a participant in DBT consultation teams since 1994. I have trained clinicians have trained other clinicians in using DBT with an emphasis on mindfulness.
In 2014, I completed the Contemplative Practice and Spirituality in Social Work program, which includes education in spiritual and existential assessment, end of life issues, addiction recovery, and the integration of mental health assessment with contemplative practices and interventions.
I live with my wife and rescue dog. I am also the parent of a tween. I spend my free time writing, painting, reading, gardening, and cooking. My pronouns are she/her, they/them.
